The National Talent Search Examination is conducted every year across the country under the National Talent Search Scheme to felicitate talented students and encourage them to continue studying by providing them with scholarships.
In 2018, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) increased the number of scholarships to be provided to students through the National Talent Search Examination. With effect from this year, 2000 students will be selected under the scholarship scheme as compared to 1000 earlier.
The students are supposed to appear for this examination in their 10th standard and the scholarship continues till PhD level with certain conditions applied. All students studying in class 10 in any recognized school including Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sainik School etc are eligible for the scholarship programme.
10th grade students who wish to apply should watch out for advertisements in the newspaper and circulars issued by the school.
The selected candidates are awarded with a scholarship of Rs 1,250 per month for class XI and XII, and a scholarship of Rs 2,000 per month for undergraduate and post-graduate level. For those pursuing PhD, scholarship is provided as per the UGC norms.
The selection of prospective candidates is done through a two-stage process. The first stage selection is individually carried out by the concerned state or union territory while NCERT conducts selection at the second stage.
