In a recent statement made by the Primary and Secondary Education Minister S.R. Srinivas, he mentioned that Kannada will now be made compulsory for both ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) and CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) schools.

He further mentioned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against schools, DDPIs (Deputy Director of Public Instruction) and BEOs (Block Education Officer) on violating the rules.

Due to increased demand of English medium schools at the rural level, Kannada medium schools are being shut down every year.

Thus, in order to not let the schools shut down at an even greater speed; the government is planning to improve the quality and educational standards of Kannada medium schools.
