After the class X results of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education faced negative remarks this year, the education department has formed two evaluation committees. These committees will monitor the evaluation and question paper patterns of the CBSE and ICSE Board.

Until last year, students enrolled under the state board could try scoring 20 marks for internal assessment for subjects such as social science and other languages. After the cancellation of internal marks in 2019, the department drew flak from both parents and students.

Recently, the government issued a notification that said, “The state board has scrapped internal marks for language and social science. The CBSE and ICSE boards continue to assess students based on internal marks. Hence the government may do a rethink on the marking system.”

This recent change resulted in a 12 percent dip in the pass percentage, this year. Thus, the evaluation committees formed will make sure that students are assessed in the most appropriate manner and submit their report within 10 days.

Suvarna Kharat, Joint Secretary of the Maharashtra school education department said, “             The two communities will study in detail how the assessment of CBSE, ICSE and ISC are done and also the paper patterns. They will look into short answer questions, descriptive questions and other details in comparison to the SSC and HSC board exams and the paper pattern.”
