The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an optional sixth subject for class 9 students from the upcoming academic session 2019 – 20. Besides AI, CBSE has also introduced Early Childhood Care Education and Yoga as new subjects.
According to CBSE, class 9 students can opt for AI as a sixth optional subject. Early Childhood Care Education & Yoga will be introduced at Senior Secondary Level from the academic session 2019-20.
CBSE Class 10th students (from 2019-20) also have the choice to opt for sixth skill paper apart from five compulsory papers. In case, if a student failed in any one of the compulsory subjects then it can be replaced by the skill paper and CBSE Class 10h result will be calculated on the basis of the best five subjects. But, if a candidate wants to reappear in the failed subject, they may appear along with the compartment exam.
The board has advised CBSE Schools to offer at least one skill subject at Senior Secondary level. The schools need to send the application to the board for these subjects before March 31, 2019.
As per a senior official "The board will provide necessary support and guidance towards training and capacity building of teachers and other aspects for the successful implementation of skill subjects from time to time".
