An NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) called ‘Social Jurist’ had approached the Supreme Court (SC) of India to demand that the CBSE 2021 Board Exam fees be waived off. For Board examination 2020-21, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will charge Class 10 students Rs. 1500 to Rs. 1800 and Class 12 students Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2400, depending on the number of subjects chosen, practical, etc. The NGO noted that due to the COVID-19 lockdown, lakhs of parents had lost jobs and incomes of many had reduced remarkably. The solution presented to this said that either asking CBSE to cancel taking fees this year or requesting the government to pay the fees on behalf of 30 lakh needy students across the country. However, SC dismissed the plea.
