Come on! Teachers are superhuman beings? But superheroes too need confidence boosters sometimes or don’t they? Here are 10 ways to get that teacher-power up their class like pro even during days when butterflies fluttered in your stomachs.

Knowledge is Power (and Confidence): Master your material The more knowledgeable you are the easier it becomes to handle questions respond to unanticipated twist of conversation or explain concepts in different words. Your level of confidence reflects through students so become an expert in your field!

Plan the Heck Out of Those Lessons: Don’t even try improvisation; structured lessons all day every day! You must have an idea of what exactly students should grasp as well as how they will learn them (what activities?) and then how will you know whether they understood or not? As long as there exist no speed breaks which result into classroom chaos all else seems just fine.

Be the Architect of Awesomeness (A.K.A Classroom Culture): First day jitters? No problem at all! Setting expectations early on while being fair and respectful is fundamental. Make a positive environment where students feel free to participate ask questions and also make errors because that’s how we learn.

Make Mistakes Your BFFs: Everyone fumbles sometimes. Did you drop a metaphor that flopped? Fluffed an explanation? Crack a joke, move on and maybe even use it as teachable moment. Showing students that it is alright to make mistakes (as long as lessons are learnt) helps create trust and less tense learning atmosphere.

Speak Their Language (Body Language, That Is): Nonverbal cues speak louder than words. Use eye contact, project your voice, but don’t shout and maintain good posture while standing tall. These signs show that one has confidence in what they are saying hence people must listen whereas fidgeting or shoulders drooping suggests otherwise.

Listen Up! Be a Master of Active Listening: Your students have something to offer. Their questions, comments and even frustrations should be attended to closely so as not to neglect their ideas thereby creating stronger bond with the class.

Variety is the Spice of Learning (and Keeps You Sane): Lecturing is cool but do change things sometimes! Incorporate group activities, discussions, debates, projects – anything that keeps students engaged according to different learning styles will work well for you too!! Little bit of creativity never hurts!

You’ve Got This! Seriously, You Do: Teaching is a difficult but highly satisfying job.  Although there will be tough days, keep in mind that you have made positive differences in your students’ lives.  Just remember, you are an able and intelligent educator and your learners should appreciate being taught by you!

Therefore, breathe deeply once more; summon up the rockstar inside of you and lead that class like a boss. For these beautiful young minds rely on you essentially.
